Top 10 Best Double-end Bags for Beginners (REVIEWED and COMPARED)

Approx Reading Time: 13 minutes
Double-end Bags for Beginners

By using a double end bag you can improve your reflexes, hand speed (especially when retracting punches), and endurance. But this is perhaps the very best way to improve the accuracy of your punches. Double-end bags are especially useful for counter punchers and technical fighters in general.

However, it’s important that you train with the right double-end bag for your skill level. If you are a beginner, I recommend that you start off with a 9-inch double end bag. These will be big enough for you to constantly barrage the bag with punches, improving your skills and getting yourself ready for smaller bags. After you gain a lot of experience and working on the 9″ bag becomes too easy for you, you can proceed to 8-inch and the 7-inch bags.

Since this article is for beginners, I made a comprehensive guide of the best 9-inch double end bags.

Anyways, without further ado, here’s the list. I hope that you find it useful!

What to Look for In a Double-End Bag for Beginners?

If you are reading this article, chances are that you will be buying a double-end bag really soon. If so, there are a few things that you must look out for before making the purchase. There have been a ton of new double end bags introduced in the last few years and most of them are pretty bad, so make sure you look for the following when spending your hard-earned cash on a bag.

  1. Materials: Obviously, the most important part of a double-bag is it’s materials, so you need to make sure they are as high quality as possible. Ideally, the cover material should be leather or vinyl. There are a few manufacturers that use some very well made synthetic leather, but they are few and far in between. Aside from this, make sure the bag cables are flexible without feeling flimsy or easy to break.
  2. Ease of installation: This is something that I’m putting here because there are many bags that are a drag to actually attach to the ground and ceiling. If you are a beginner boxer or are going to be using this bag on your home, then make sure you purchase ones that are as a beginner as friendly as possible, at least when it comes to the installation of it.

#1 Ringside Leather Boxing Double End Bag – Best Double one for Beginners!

Ringside Leather Boxing Double End Bag

Ringside is quickly becoming one of my favorite boxing brands. Their gear is very well made, they have introduced a lot of innovations to the market, and the gear is adequately priced. The same things hold true for this double end bag. This is perhaps the very best double end bag that you can use under a hundred bucks.

The best thing about this bag is its sheer quality. This particular bag is completely covered in leather. You are going to have to take care of it, but if you do, this will bounce properly for several years. Ringside didn’t skimp when it comes to other parts of this bag either. The stitching is very well done, and after an extensive inspection of it, everything was properly held down together. The nylon isn’t cheap, and in general, this is a bag that will seriously stand the test of time.

Another thing that I really dig about this double-end bag is the fact that it doesn’t lose air very easily. I have used several different bags over the years and there are some of them that quickly deflated after hitting them a few times, forcing me to fill them up with air and installing them again. This can prove to be a hassle if you have more than 1 person hitting the double end bag, so I prefer products that stay completely filled as long as possible, and this one has been good at that. Expect to refill this bag once a month or so with heavy use.

All in all, when you factor in considerations like pricing, quality, ease of use & installation, and styling, this is perhaps the best double end bag in this article. I think the 9”’version of the bag costs less than $50 but you can check the current price on Amazon.com.

PROS CONS
✔ Excellent quality, among the best in its price point
✔ Doesn’t lose any air when you hit it
✔ Relatively affordable given the quality of this bag
✘ The bladder may not be the most high-quality one

#2 RDX Double End Ball – Worthy Alternative

RDX Double End Ball

When compared with the Ringside bag above, this one bounces a little bit more when you hit it, and the nylon feels tighter, which makes hitting this just a bit more challenging. This might be a pro or a con depending on your skill level. Aside from this, one of the pros of this bag is the design. RDX has really made sure this bag stands out, and aside from the fact that it makes this bag look awesome, it also helps with visibility, which might be a consideration if you train in spaces with less light (like basement or garage).

If you wanted to buy one double end bag that has no compromises, I would advise that you either get this one of the ones above. RDX has really stormed the market with great products with a different aesthetic, and that is something that I really love about them. They do not skimp on the quality department either.

The straps and nylon rope are very high quality, the construction is well done in general, but there’s something that I need to point out: this double end bag is not made from natural leather. It’s made from RDX proprietary synthetic leather, which I think is the reason why this double-end bag bounces so much. This is the only of the few objective cons that this bag has when compared to the Ringside product above. You can check the availability of this bag on the RDX website (I think there’s a 10% discount for your first purchase).

Something else that I have to point out is that you need an electric pump to fill it up. As you probably guessed, this bag comes unfilled, and this might prove to be a problem if you can’t find an electric pump to completely fill the bag.

PROS CONS
✔ Synthetic leather used is very high-quality and sounds great
✔ Awesome MMA-inspired styling that most boxers will love
✔ Great bouncing capability that will give you a serious workout
✘ A little bit too hard to fill up

#3 Elite Double End Bag – Great Bouncing Capability!

Elite Double End Bag

While they have gained their reputation by making some excellent gloves, Amber Elite also makes other kinds of equipment, such as headgear, heavy bags, and of course, double-end bags. This particular one is Elite’s traditional double end bag, with a very slight oval shape that is very popular in Mexico. This is a good piece of equipment, but there are better products out there. The main problem of this product is its pricing, which does not match up with the quality.

Something that I enjoyed about this bag is the fact that it bounces so well. I personally love to practice my slips with this double end bag, and the adjustability allows them to put the ball just near my head level. It bounces in a very unpredictable, perfect for practicing counter punching and head movement. If you like these kinds of ultra bouncy bags, this one might be worth a look (check it on Amazon.com). but there’s one con that we need to talk about.

And that is the pricing. This particular double end bag is over $60 bucks, and it thinks that it is a little bit too much when you consider what you get. Sure, this bag will seriously improve your reflexes, but the cover material feels a bit cheap as if it were built from 2nd-grade materials. Not a bad bag, but I would go for either the first or second choice instead. They are better made, while at the same time being significantly cheaper.

PROS CONS
✔ Excellent bouncing capability
✔ Awesome old-school styling that most boxers will love
✘ A bit too expensive for that you get

#4 Naja Double End Ball – Brazillian Dark Horse

Naja Double End Ball

This is a new product from a new company. It’s a great double end bag for people on a budget, and while it has some great pros, it’s outclassed by other double end bags by more reputable manufacturers. I would recommend that you check this bag out if you are on a very tight budget and want something that won’t break down on you as soon as you hit it with some force. You can check the price of the bag on Amazon.com.

Anyways, one of the things that I most appreciated about this bag is the fact that Naja used real leather for the covering of the bag, which costs much more than the synthetics being used these days. Using a bag with real leather means that you are going to have to do regular maintenance to keep it in top shape, but if you do so, expect an optimal hitting surface that will absorb blows really well. It also smells really good!

Also, Naja is a Brazillian company, and that reflects on the styling of this bag. Unlike many bags on this list, this one has a very flashy and in-your-face style that will appeal to many younger fighters out there. I personally adored the bright orange tint of the covering of the bag, which contrasted really well with the tribal designs Naja embedded on the covering. Also, another big merit of this bag is the fact that this product is handmade, which makes the price tag ever more shocking.

PROS CONS
✔ One of the few handcrafted double end bags
✔ Brazillian inspired styling looks super cool
✘ Quality is a little bit worse than other more recognized brands

#5 Title Infused Foam Double End Bag – Premium, But A Bit Too Costly

Title Infused Foam Double End Bag

Another veteran in the boxing industry, Title made their name by providing the same quality as brands such as Everlast and Ringside while at the same time undercutting them in the pricing department. You would think that this double end bag would follow the same formula, but the truth is that it’s only half right. While this product is very well made with high-quality foam, Title has over the years slowly increased the pricing of this product, which is the reason why this bag is not in the top 3 of this list. You can check the current price of the bag on Amazon.com.

Expect premium construction throughout this double-end bag. The foam also provides the bag with a lot of bounce, which will greatly improve your skills. The stitching is very well done, and I didn’t notice any abnormalities.

The only problem as I said above, has to do with the pricing. This bag is a bit too expensive, especially when you consider that there are Ringside and RDX double end bags that provide the same quality while being 20 bucks cheaper. Thankfully, Title does provide frequent discounts of this particular bag, so if you are interested in buying it, I would recommend that you do so when Title announces a decent discount. Still a great bag, but not for its full price.

PROS CONS
✔ Synthetic leather used is very high-quality and sounds great
✔ High-quality foam will last a long time
✘ Too expensive for what you get

#6 Contender Fight Sports Synthetic Leather Boxing Double End Bag – Most Affordable!

Contender Fight Sports Synthetic Leather Boxing Double End Bag

This is perhaps the most affordable bag on this list, which makes this an ideal product for people that are on a very tight budget. However, Contender Fight Sports made this bag affordable by using lower-quality materials, so do not expect the quality of a known brand like Ringside or Title. I would recommend that you only buy this if you are in a very tight budget and are willing to compromise on build quality (click here to check the price on Amazon.com).

I visited a gym in another city once, and I was able to do a few rounds on this bag. The cover of this bag is made from synthetic leather and a pretty crappy one. The bag had a few torn pieces from the constant blows, something that won’t happen to a more expensive bag. The nylon was okay, but a little bit too loose in my opinion.

Maybe I’m asking too much from a bag worth less than $35, but I personally would advise that you get something a little bit more expensive that will last a long time.

PROS CONS
✔ Super affordable bag   ✘ I personally hated the bland looks of this brand
✘ Quality is lacking

#7 Ringside Mexican-Style Double-Double End Bag – Among The Best Bags of it’s Kind!

Ringside Mexican-Style Double-Double End Bag

Most boxers prefer to use the classic double end bag with just 1 ball, but double-double end bags are also great for practicing body punching. I personally tend to use both when training, if you do so too, you should try out this bag. Double-end bags of this kind tend to be a little bit more expensive than the normal kind, but this one is pretty affordable for what you get. The construction is okay, perfectly appropriate for the pricing.

This is a double end bag that is very common in Mexico. Mexican fighters tend to focus a lot on body punching, and this helps them a lot in that regard. It’s a little bit worse for practicing slipping, and head movement in general, though.

As I said above, this bag isn’t super expensive, but not cheap either (check the price on Amazon.com). The build quality is pretty ok. You may a few issues installing this bag, as some people report. This is one of the few reasons why this bag is not higher up in the list. It has very strong pros though, and if you are on the lookout for a double-end bag of this kind, I would recommend that you put this one on the top of this list!

PROS CONS
✔ Great for those looking to train their body punching   ✘ Not super expensive, but not cheap either
✘ Installing the bag might prove t be a hassle

I know I said that this is a top 10 list in the headline. There are only 7 products listed for now, but I’ll add more double end-bags as I test them!
